Gelding's nose update to the update

Hi everyone,
I thought everything was fine with Dar's nose and came home from a short
ride (first in 4 weeks) to find that he had broken all the stitches in his
nose and the wound was wide open. I ran home to call the vet and my
neighbor told me that he had done it with the muzzle on him. I called the
vet on Sunday and she came over in 15 minutes. This was not my regular vet,
the partner that was on call. Could not get in touch with my vet as she was
having her own troubles at the track. The other vet was hesitant to put
stitches in him since he had started to swell up within an hour but I
convinced her to do it because I knew he would have his face rubbed out if
we didn't do that. Everything went well and she did a nice stitch job, we
were just crossing our fingers for the suture to hold so I have several
friends taking his muzzle off and on before he tears the second set out.
This is really frustrating not to mention a real drain on my purse. The vet
has been very cooperative and not charged me for going out to check him on
her lunch hour and cleaning him up. I made a modification in the muzzle
whereby I duct taped the whole next to his nose on the outside and inside so
he couldn't get part of it through the hole to rub. We also tied baling
twine from his muzzle up to the halter and held it in place better. And
taking the mare out for a ride probably didn't help matters either.

EVERYONE KEEP THEIR FINGERS CROSSED ON THIS ONE. Thanks.
