Linda, I'm glad you came up with the name Agri-Risk before I was forced
to go pawing through the filing cabinets---Agri-Risk is who we've
insured through as well. The horse we lost this past year was listed as
pleasure, show and endurance, and we had no problems getting mortality
and major medical---a good thing, as not long after we got him covered,
he had a rather freakish colic incident, underwent surgery, was
hospitalized for weeks and eventually was put down. Agri-Risk didn't
give us any trouble about paying off on the policy. It's the only time
in 20 years that I've ever had to actually put in a claim, knock on
wood, but they could have made life alot more difficult than they did
(at an already very upsetting time). BTW, I think we paid somewhere in
the neighborhood of $23 per thousand dollars of value on the mortality,
and the major medical was another $150 for the year. The vet bills
alone totalled over $7000, and *that* was only because the vet (may she
live forever) was a friend and did alot of the work at her cost.
