Shagya

Hey Roger... I suspect the maniacal problems with the Shagya have a lot to do with his background and lack of `loose' running experience, lack of socializing with other equine, etc. We raise desertbred (ASIL Sa'ud) horses, are fortunate enough to have plenty of space for them to grow and develop, running over rolling hills, creeks, dodging trees, jumping logs, creeks, etc. even swimming. They learn how to handle themselves and how to behave with others. I have a horse of of the same bloodlines that I got from another breeder who had the background of your Shagya. I have worked with him 3 years ... he is still a maniac, hurts himself, over-reacts to other horses, has a place bigger than his original, so runs too fast and hits the fence, lame etc. If he were not the fastest thing I had ever ridden in the last 1/4 of a 50, I would not bother with him, and I don't get many rewards because he has always done something to himself after all the work getting him ready. I am sure glad I have the others to ride, so I know how great they really are. Background must be really, really important. Edie TX
