Drinking During Ride

With all this discussion about electrolytes, not sweating, and heat and
humidity, I need to pose this question.
My horse won't drink during an endurance ride until he's at the 25-mile
mark. Many other riders I've spoken with have the same problem. I, of
course, have never gotten high marks for hydration at the end of a 50
(haven't done 100 yet). At the same time, I've never had any metabolic
problems as a result of this (neither have the other riders I know with the
same problem).
As for the rest of you, do your horses drink from the outset or do they
also not start drinking until later in the ride?
Also, by this 25-mile point, I've already administered electrolytes a few
times, so too late with the advice "don't give electrolytes if they're not
drinking."
So is 25 miles of not drinking pretty standard or pretty bad news? What's
one to do?

Thanks, Lori
