My old horse Isaiah did this with both rear feet.  Looked as if he would
unscrew his shoes.  My farrier said he must have some Walking horse in
him.  He is 7/8 Arab.  I asked his breeder about the other 1/8.  Turns
out it's Walking horse!  He has no problem with shoes, has 1400 or so
miles on him with only one pull and never a lost time lameness or a
lameness vet bill!
