The second jewel of the Texas Triple Crown series was well attended with
99 horses competing in the three distances. The wild flowers and
sunshine made for a perfect day on the trails in south Texas.
Ride Manager Barbara Sondock sent 6 rider out on the trails for the 75
mile event. Middleweight Darolyn Butler riding Casuals Marcus was first
across the line in a time of 11:51. She was followed closely by
Middleweight Bridget Cavanaugh/Kronnick, Featherweight Shelley
Bridges/Windswift Pharrah and Lightweight Lynda Corry/Baskhari who all
recorded times of 11:52. Viriginia Merkel/Independence and Linda
Laack/Classis Capri rounded out the field with times of 16:22. Karronick
was awarded Best Condition honors for his score of 652.
The 50 mile ride was well attended with 27 riders starting and finishing
the event. Lightweight Gail Fiebelman rode Topaz to first place honors
with a time of 5:36. Second place went to Middleweight Kitty Proctor on
Ibn Rhesado Halim who also finished with a time of 5:36. The top ten was
rounded out by; Chris Lewis/Azab Azeze, Bethany Cobb/Zia, Jim
Matthess/Sabre, Vonita Bowers/Kozy Girl, first junior Hilary Zeigles/Bab
Sheeba, Bobbie Barber/Kash, Jan Wright/Bab Terah and Jennifer Noblin/DAF
Bobbi Sox who recorded her first TT. Topaz ridden by Gail Fiebelman was
awarded BC by Head Veterinarian Valerie Lewis-Jaffe for her 713 score.
The 30 mile limited distance event saw 66 horses take to the trials with
62 finishing this challenging trail. BAB Toby ridden by Lynn Zeigler was
first to reach criteria in a time of 2:29. BAB Toby was also awarded
Best Condition for the ride.
