Re: Other Sport Horse Organization Membership Fee Structures

Bob,

We proposed a change in the AERC fees from the current $65/$75
for single/family membership to $65/$90 for a 2 adult family (married
couple to meet AERC's family requirement). If one parent and 2 kids ride
their fees would remain at $85 under the proposal that we came up with.
While it is interesting to see what other groups charge for membership,
we did keep in mind that AERC membership includes a decent endurance
magazine and yearbook. I do feel that the per issue costs of these
publications should be subtracted from family/group memberships which only
receive one copy. Stagg Newman has started the process of having Doyle
Patrick get these costs analyzed so that the board can come up with an
ADULT family membership fee which reflects the costs of membership.
When the fee reflects the costs then it will not be neccessary to
be so restrictive of who can join under a family/group option. We fully
expect the board to continue offering jr family memberships at the current
$10, as well as offering a comparable discount on membership for single jrs.
whose parents do not happen to be in AERC. (Making the new single jr
membership $50 instead of $65 if our estimate of costs was close.)
Since AERC would be broke if not for the sponsorships that Randy Eiland &
the sponsorship commmitte brought in, we are not asking for any reduction
in single membership dues at this time. We hope that offering a group
membership option will make it possible for some singles who currently
can not afford to join AERC to become members. While AERC may lose some
non-riding $10 members with the change, I believe that overall the
organization will benefit from accurate, non-restrictive fees, with
jr. discounts.
