>I am curious, who is taking the responsibility for this horse now?

So far as I know, responsibility at this moment still resides with the
young woman who owns the horse. She is not the person who published the
need on the lists, rather that person was the barn owner.

>Who is >(we)? Who owns it?

"We" in my post refers to those of us who have been interested in and
trying to help in this situation, who have been several. The horse is
owned by a young woman who is new to horses, apparently, is sweet and loves
this horse and is reluctant to have it sent to slaughter, nor certainly to
auction as presently unmanageable as it is, but sees also that the horse is
beyond her capabilities. The barn owner person likewise finds the filly
beyond her capacity, has had it with the horse and wants her gone asap.

>Is this a rescue attempt?

It is a rescue attempt in that the barnperson had said she gave the owner
one month to try to find it a rehab situation then the filly was outta
there, but was primarily recommending to the young woman owner who is sweet
and apparently not a take charge sort, that the horse *really belonged in a
can. The young woman was preferring to give the horse free to a rehabber
rather than see it go to slaughter. So the barn person put the word out on
a list that I happened to see. I was trying to help by sharing that appeal.

>Are the owners paying to having it trained? Do they want the horse back?
Did some one talk the owners into keeping the horse? Is it yours now? What
is the owner trying to decide? Was a complete VET check done?

So far as I know, if the owner accepts the offer of the person willing to
rehab the horse, the original deal was to give the horse free for that
effort, I would suppose on the theory that the horse is not only not
ridable but also nearly unhandleable as it now is.

It's not my horse. I've never see the horse, nor do I know the people
outside of numerous emails. My interest and involvement has been as a
go-between on the various lists ... to spread the word about the need and
then to put other folks in touch with each other in an attempt to resolve
the need. My concern was that there hadn't seemed to be a serious attempt
at good rehabbing by a "thinking horsemanship" person, and that there was
every likelihood that the horse simply needed appropriate handling and
training. The rehabber who has volunteered to take on this project, after
talking with the barn person, is of the opinion that this in fact is the case.

I don't know whether a complete vet check was done. I did forward some
messages that suggested there may be a medical basis for the problem for
their consideration. Was advised that that didn't seem to be the issue.

>These questions are NOT meant to be sarcastic. I am confused about your
post......... When I take on a rescue situation I own the horse and the
bills......... even if in the end the horse is placed free of
charge........ that is the commitment part.

>Help me understand your post........

I appreciate your concerns, Sigrid, and they are valid, especially when
appeals for help go out. My request for transport assistance/advice was
generated by my remaining concern for the situation ... according to a
knowledgeable rehabber it seems that here we have a thoroughly redeemable
horse. The owner is willing to give the horse away free for the rehabbing,
but the rehabber lives a couple of states away. My concern to find
transport assistance/advice is to forestall the owner saying "well ....
that's nice, but while I was willing to give the horse away, I'm not quite
willing to pay the transport fee to do it." I don't *know that the owner
would say this, but my impression is that she's a young 22 year old sweet
and kind person who may not have the wherewithal to accomplish the move.
The rehabber would do the transporting, but it is a work season requiring
he stay on the job for the foreseeable near future.

Before I appealed to Horsefaces, I thought simply to inquire whether there
were some reasonably priced alternative that someone knew about, or was
anyone on our lists heading that way. I'm still interested in hearing from
anyone with ideas or suggestions in that regard.

Thanks, Sigrid, for your interest and concern.
