Hi,

Whenever I've used an easy boot the problem of getting them on and off has
been greatly eased with a long screwdriver, I'm very careful with it and use
it simply as a wedge similar to a shoehorn to get the boot on and off. I
make it a practice when on long trail rides to carry an easy boot and
a screwdriver in my saddlebags. I would like to caution people when selecting
Easy boot sizes to select one that is appropriate for when your horse is
barefoot and one that is the right size for if the horse still has a shoe
on, the two sizes are likely to be different. I had an occassion where my
horse had been barefoot and due to running around and being ridden over the
sandpaper we call ground here she held up reasonably well but eventually
needed shoes in front. I had them put on and the shoer discovered some
small bruises that he didn't think were bothering her. A few days later I
got invited on a trail ride which ultimately led up into the mountains to
a rocky trail, going downhill she stopped and acted footsore, I dismounted
and went to put her Easy boots on only to find out that her foot size with
shoes on was at least one bigger than the shoes I was carrying. I managed
to get one boot on but the other one just wouldn't fit. I walked her down
from the worst of the rocks and fortunately it wasn't too much further to
softer ground but if I'd taken the size of the shoes into account she would
have been happier. (She got stall rest for a day and then turnout for
a couple of weeks until the bruises healed and her foot grew out.)
