Now for the original message that was bounced:

Someone brought up the question as related to endurance riding.

Although not related to endurance riding, if someone is willing to sort through
the information, there is a USENET newsgroup:

sci.geo.satellite-nav

in which many things are discussed about GPS including receivers and features.

Whether this will be helpful for any individual interested in GPS and
endurance riding will be left to the individual to decide for themself. :-)

FWIW, I did see an add (sale item) for a GPS for $129 (US dollars). It was
at Sport Chalet in the Southern Califo area if I am remembering correctly.

I believe I saw a GPS unit in REI in the Northridge agea the other day at $179.

All of the above is just tossed out to further discussion among those that
might be interested in endurance and GPS. None of the above info is sufficient
IMO to be used as the basis of a decision but it might help in deciding where
to look. :-)
