"Best of" Ridecamp

This is a "for what it's worth" post. Maybe someone else would find this
a useful idea.

When I moved my horses to this board barn two years ago, I was the only
endurance rider.

Now there are two more 50 milers, 2 aspiring 50 milers who finished 1st
and 2nd in their only LD (not understanding the point) and at least one
more with a young horse coming along.

All these people want/need to learn more about the sport, and only one
of them has Internet access. They bought the books, but need the latest
info and anecdotal experience found here, too.

What I'm just finishing up is a 1 1/2" binder containing the "best of"
ridecamp for the past two years. This will be kept at the barn and
loaned out to these fellow riders so that they can glean the necessary
knowledge, compare opposing POVs, etc. I've also made a "backup" book in
case the primary gets lost, and one for a special friend.

I am separating the messages (nearly 240 of them) into these categories:

Arabians (Sweepstakes rules, other info)
Conditioning
Easy Boots (deserves its own category, don't you think?)
Humor (BIG chapter)
Inspiration (like Julie Suhr's posts)
Legends (top horse and riders)
Nutrition (without the esoterics)
Products (what works, sources)
Stories (another big chapter)
Strategies (crewing, what to carry, how to manage time)
Veterinarians (advice from ride vets)

I'll add on to the book while archiving messages at intervals. The easy
way to create the updates is to create a folder that is date-specific,
dump the messages in there periodically, then do like I did last
night--select all messages, <command-P> to print through the night.
I'll only warrant performance on a Mac though. ;-)

Happy Holidays!
