Question Regarding Biothane Bit Hangers (rub a hole in your

I have a question for all you Biothane halter/bridle users out there. I
have always wanted a nice Biothane Halter/Bridle combination, the type that
is just the halter (no browband) with the bit hangers so that at vet checks
I can quickly snap the bit off and still have the security of a strong,
well made halter. Since I already have a bridle (couple of newer leather
ones, got them really cheap at the auction years ago) and money is limited
right now, a new Biothane bridle is a "luxury" item - at least the current
price of a new is. So I have often wondered if I could just buy the bit
hangers and use them on Winza's regular nylon Hamilton halter (that he
currently wears under his bridle at races). My concern has always been that
the snap on the bit hanger might rub a sore into him if I was to attach the
snap to the upper cheek ring (the one that connects the check piece with
the crown piece, forgive me for not knowing the correct term). I have seen
most of the Biothane halter'bridle combos have a d-ring on the check piece
of the halter to snap the bit hanger to, but I just saw a Biothane
halter/bridle combo where the bit hanger snaps to that upper ring and it
got me to thinking about using my own halter and buying bit hangers again.

Here is the URL of halter/bridle I found: http://www.hought.com/endhc.html
it is the Endurance Tack site from the Endurance Net homepage. Has anyone
on Ridecamp used a halter/bridle like this? Does the bit hanger snap rub a
hole in your horse? I appreciate any tried and true advice because I would
like to avoid buying equipment that I wont be able to use.

I have also thought about using a curb strap (strap, not chain) or small
nylon dog/cat collar with my own snaps to create my own "bit hanger".
Anyone tried this or have any thoughts on it?

Thanks!!!
