Actually, I would choose neither. I would (and am) doing both CTR and
endurance with my Peruvian Pasos. (The ones I am currently competing are
very smooth and locked in gait under saddle -- but they've been taught that
when I'm on the ground next to them and I say "trot", that's exactly what I
want. Although I've had no problem with vets evaluating soundness in gait,
if my horse and I can make things easier for them then we will.)
