I use Thompson's Water Seal. Buy it by the gallon and you can spray it on
with any type of spray gun (paint type or garden type). Works great, and
is a lot less expensive than Scotchguard. You can also paint it on a horse
blanket with a paint brush. I still use Scotch Guard...it stays in the
trailer and I use it on my clothings and shoes when I'm doing a ride in the
rain.
