Yeah, that's the problem--very little equine-specific research. All we can do
is use human and animal (mainly feedlot) research and extropolate our
needs--then test. One thing you will typically not find are companies which
sell nutritional products out there testing this and that on real equine
athletes. They wait until an interested party finances academic research,
then jump on the bandwagon of the latest fad--feeding fat, for example. Equus
recently jumped on that bandwagon with an article about how wonderful fat was
for the horse--said it was calming and made hard to handle horses tractable.
I wrote that "tractable" and outright lethargy were two different things.
