HELP WITH THE FLUE

We seem to have contracted some type of flue in our area that has been
extremely hard to treat. It seems to respond well to pennicillian at first
but then after they have been off it for a week it comes back. One horse
in particular I treated religiously for 21 days with penicillian and
thought he was over it and it came back. The stuff starts with goopy eyes,
then they get a cough and then thick yellow stuff out the nose. If we
start treating them at the goopy eye stage it doesn't progress to the
yellow stuff out the nose.

The problem is as soon as they have been off penicillian for a few days it
all comes back!!!! We have been treating these horses since the end of
July!!!! We have tried SMZ(sulfa drugs) which didn't seem to even touch
it. Then procaine injections which they responded well to but 30cc 2ce per
day for 14 or 21 days is a lot!!! So then the vet tried naxcel(sp?) which
didn't even help. I don't think I can bear to stick another needle in
them!!!!!!!

Any help/suggestions would sure be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!
