a letter forwarded to me written by Brett Feese State Representative, 84th
Legislative District, House of Representatives, State. of Pa.

You are probably aware that the DCNR has proposed changes to the rules and
regulations of state forest land. Section 21.26 of those proposed changes
would prohibit horses on the 18 state forest designated hiking trails unless
posted as open to such use. In this area the trails would include the
Loyalstock, Old Loggers Path, Midstate, Black Forest., etc. Although there
is a public meeting scheduled for November 6, 1997 at 6:30 p.m. at the
Sheraton in Williamsport, the only comments that the Department may consider
are written comments which must be received by November 13, 1997. Thus, we
need individuals to write to the DCNR to object to the proposed change prior
to November 13, 1997. The objections must be mailed to Warren A. Ely, Chief,
Division of State Forest Management, P.O. Box 8552 Rachel Carson State
Office Building, Harrisburg, Pa. 17105 - 8552 . If we do not mobilize
support on this issue I fear that it is the beginning of the end for
horseback riding on state forest land.
Although providing written comment by Nov. 13, l997 is the most important we
should also encourage all horseback riders to attend the Nov. 6, l997 meeting
at the Sheraton.#############################

Once again the State of Pennsylvania is trying to shut us out of our trails.
Please write a letter to the above Warren Ely, and mail or e mail me a
copy. I will attend the meeting and read as many of the letters as they will
let me. Include in the letter to me your permission for me to read your
letter.
