Hello, me again,

I received some great replies to my original comments on mental training
and realized some background for comparison is in order. Also I want to
clarify the problem.

Mystery is 10 years old and the last 3 especially have been long slow
distance training as well as behavioral training. This is using Natural
Horseman techniques and low, low level dressage techniques. When I
first started writing to Ridecamp he wouldn't even follow another horse
calmly and would totally flip if one went out of his sight. Now, we are
on the other side of the speculum where he doesn't want to move out
ahead of someone else and loses heart easily.

I wonder if this is an indication of a lack of confidence that he can
"race" another horse, or overtraining by me not to worry about
overtaking another horse, or he is just not a natural racer. When we
are with horses he knows and whom he realizes he can be competitive
with, he does become competitive.

BTW, he LOVES new trails, especially winding single track, and becomes
and almost different horse.

Keep those comments coming! And thanks to everyone replying.
