Susan:

This is from a family who has been associated with the AERC since 1977, 20
years now.

My wife was a director for a number of years, also held positions such as
Secretary and Vice President. She also edited the current Ride Managers
Manual.

I was a Director for two years and prior to that worked on the codification
of the AERC Rules and Regulations as well as promulgating the current AERC
Procedures for the Directors, Officers and National Office. (none of this by
my self, of course)

These activities are STRICTLY VOLUNTEER!!! Yes, it will cost you!!!

We felt the expense of some phone calls, postage and yearly attendance at
the AERC Convention was worthwhile considering all we had gotten from
endurance riding. Then again, if you do not participate, you have no cause
to complain. You either help solve the problem or you are the problem.

Membership on Committees is open to all members of AERC in good standing.
All you have to do is to indicate your willingness to work with the
committee chair. Make your self known, contact the committee of your choice
and tell the chair what you want to do, can do and will do. I can assure you
that you will not be rejected.

At times participating can be very exasperating, to say the least. Other
times it is extremely rewarding. I feel that the rewards have far exceeded
the exasperation. (does twenty years tell you something?)

Remember that the organization is only as good as those participating. The
organization gets nothing from those who sit on the sidelines and bitch. If
all those who criticize the Board, justly and unjustly, helped solve the
problems instead of being the problem, our AERC would be an outstanding
worldwide leader. As it is we are struggling, not leading!

It is up to you (the members and potential members of AERC) to lead or push
instead of tripping those who will.
