Lynn,

You made a good point about the color. I ride a chestnut Morgan, and her
recoveries are great. I just realized from reading the ECTRA newsletter,
that on our first ride, we came in 4th overall. And it was muggy. (Boy,
I've learned a lot from all of you guys! <G>)

I know that little black Morgan, she was on the Vermont 100 when I was a
timer at some of the holds. Finished that one, too as I recall. Very nice
horse. Kudos to them for completing the ROC, some of us are just dreaming
of getting there!

AS for their history (Morgans), I know that pretty well, too. I've been in
a family that started out with QH's, Arabs, & Morgans, but Morgans won out
when we stuck to one breed, hands down. I also head The Archival Morgan
Record, which registers part-bred Morgans as well. So I do a lot of
research as part of my job.

Morgans had to perform 300 mile tests for the military in the old days, in
rough country. Amazingly, one of the best to come through, was a Morgan
Stallion. Later, as horses weren't needed for the military, there were many
who enjoyed the distance riding. The Green Mountain Horse Association is
one of these, having a big ride every year, and other competitions.
(Correct me if I'm wrong, Sue! <G>) I don't think every Morgan is cut out
for endurance. But I do know of Morgans who can perform in this sport, and
not sweat it. Some of them have almost been lost out west, but we are
digging them up, so not to lose them as the important lines they are.
That's part of the Archival's mission.

Yes, Arabs dominate, and they are great horses. I've always considered them
my second breed, if I couldn't have Morgans. But maybe if there were as
many Morgans as Arabs out there, things wouldn't look so lopsided! OK,
just a thought, don't shoot me! <G>!

I'm done now, will go hide with my Morgan meadow munchers............
