I rode the Malibu Ride this year and also rode the ride in 1996 and would
like to set the record straight on this race before the comments on the
Malibu 50 get out of hand and some riders get the wrong impression of this
ride. I am posting a private e mail I sent to Kat who posted the original
comments on this ride. Perhaps this discussion on the difference in
finishing times in 1996 and 1997 are a mute point because I believe there is
an error in AERC News on the winning time. The riders that I know that
attend the Malibu are looking for a challenging course and know this is not
and has never been considered "an easy" ride.
For those of you that have not had the pleasure of riding up "Bulldog"
and "Mesa" fire roads in the same race I can assure you that a finishing time
4:15 would be near impossible as we don't see those finishing times at even
some of the flat dessert rides in the SW region. It is always good to double
check facts that do not seem correct before making comment.
