fleece

There is fleece, things that look like fleece, polar fleece
and PolarTec(R).

There was this textile factory in the east US that was going out
of business due to the low cost of textiles from other countries
(you know that story). Well this company decided that there had
to be another way. They retooled their factory and (some smart
person) came up with PolarTec(r). And they hired back the same
employees, (a nice touch in this age of outsourcing.) This material is
made from recycled plastic bottles (and who knows what or how). It is a
wonderful material (in my opinion). It wicks mosture away from
the body. And when soaked, still holds approximately 80% of its
heat quality. Wool is about 90%. Cotton is about -50% (makes you
colder when wet). PolarTec(r) comes in a couple of weights.
100 (very light) 200 and 300 (heavy and very warm). You'll usually
see 100 and 200 in stores. Check the label.

PolarTec(r) is generally more expensive than the other materials.
Personally, I think it is also better. Polar Fleece is something
very similar to PolarTec(r). Fleece can be anything. The stuff that
is called fleece at most discount stores is a brushed cotton, soft
and fairly warm when dry, but a real pain and cold when wet.
Real fleece is the stuff that comes off of sheep (before all the
processing). It is warm but a bit hard to handle :-) And the sheep
do object at times.

So when choosing the material for your blanket, look very closely
at exactly what the material is.
