I have been having a lot of trouble with my computer, but after a new
hardrive, new modem, new
browser and new email software, I am back and better then ever. Just have to
learn this new programing.

I have been dying to tell everyone about my first competitive ride. When I
started out I was the last one out of the starting gate. I remembered what
everyone said about not racing your horse and teaching them to find a pace and
stick with it. So I did that and lost sight of the leaders after the first
mile. I kept telling myself to not get too competitive and waste my horse. I
just remember that to cross the finish line is to win and most of all to have
fun!! Well I did all of that and I was one of the last riders to cross the
finish line. But me and my horse had a great time and we were ready for more.

But was I surprised to find out at awards that me and my Arab placed 4th out
of 13 riders! We also had come in only five minutes behind the leaders,
because the leaders had spent 15 minutes at the 2 mile mark trying to get
their horses pulse and respiration down. Plus I placed better then the ones
that came in first. Also I would have tied for second place if I had not lost
so many points for the fact that I had the wrong saddle and my horse was sore
in the back. Still looking for a saddle to fit my horse.

I would have never, never been able to do so well in my first ride if it had
not been for all of the advice that I received on this list. Thanks so much. I
am also now hooked on the sport. Looking forward to next season. I still need
to find a saddle for my horse so I can continue to condition him through the
winter. ND's first ride in the spring is Memorial Day weekend. I am going to
purchase a bareback pad so I can stay warmer riding through the snow. If we
get any snow this winter. They are predicting a warm winter for us. Today on
Oct. 1 the highs are for 85 degrees and last week it was up in the 90"s.

Thanks again.
