I agree with you. My mare is one of those mares that someone used for
endurance and when I say used, I mean really used! The person who owned
her before me, couldn't have ridden her in endurance that long, because
she was only 8 when I bought her. Being really naive, I took this person
at her word, didn't have a vet check and after I got her home and fell
in love with her, found out she has navicular. Well, if I had it to do
all over again, I would go through the vet check, and all the stuff I
knew I should have done, but now, I wouldn't give this horse up for the
world. I don't do endurance rides, but enjoy hearing about those of you
who do, and this horse has worked out well for me. Although the first 6
months were a nightmare. All this horse knew was as soon as a rider gets
on, you take off! And not at a walk. It took me a good year to train
this horse to relax and enjoy our rides together.
I guess I'm getting off the subject, but just wanted to comment on your
post. I agree with you wholeheartedly, as I ended up with one of those
"racing" endurance horses who was finished (in endurance riding) soon
after she started. She did win alot, but at what price?
