Well friends, I've finally done it. I've bought a new mare and will be
giving up riding my best friends beloved gelding. Lella, is a 14.2
crabbet bred (80+%) arab mare, 12 yrs old, and built like a truck. She's
been standing around in the mare herd without a job for a few years, so she
will be a bit of a project. She's a real joy to ride on rough trail but
knows very little of the basics She needs lots of ring work but her light
mouth and desire to listen to my leg tells me she will come around in due
time.

Unfortunately, I don't have a saddle that will stay on her oh-so-round
back. Did I mention that she is mutton withered? I need a new saddle with
a tree that will fit her. I want to stay with an english style if I can.
If she needs a custom tree then I will go to a Sharon Saare endurance
model, however, I'm hoping I can find something reasonably priced in an
english style. I'm currently using my trooper saddle which actually fits
her shoulder, but isn't comfortable for me with her big trot. I also
would have to use a breast collar and crupper in the mountains because it
slides front to back (which I may have to do with any saddle).
I recently bought a Saddle Doctor by Nice (combined training style) which
I love, but the standard tree doesn't fit her. Has anyone tried this
saddle in a wide tree?

Any suggestions on saddles that you have tried and liked? I ride dressage
so a balanced seat is pretty important to me.
