My DVM's "Scratches" Nolvasan recipe

Fairly recently there was a thread about scratches (aka mud fever, dew
poisoning) and a couple of people mentioned that their veterinarians had a
"recipe" for a medicated ointment that worked, but that it would only be
shared with other veterinarians. I don't know that the recipe that my
veterinary hospital uses is the same, but it does seem to help - When used
properly - for the above skin problems and also for "rain rot".

You will need to ask your veterinarian if this is something that he or she
will be willing to mix up for you, and be prepared to pay a pretty good
price (Nolvasan ointment is not cheap).

This ointment should be used twice daily after the affected areas are
scrubbed clean (try to get the scabs off of the areas) and rinsed well.

Nolvasan with Pen & Dex

Nolvasan ointment 16oz.
Penicillin Procaine G 25ml
Dexamethasone 2mg/ml 25ml

Mix well with tongue blade. Keep refrigerated.

Good luck!
