Hi Paddi
I never use flashlights at night, one horses vision at night if far better
than ours,my first 100 Miler which started at 12pm,the first leg i rode
with my eyes closed, gotto trust your horse! In the camps at night ,just
watch your horses move if startled, they never stand in holes or run into
fences.As for emerginicies,how about this one,on a 50 miler (on a new
horse) the horse shied at a bush while galloping up hill, she went one way
me the other, anyway to cut a long story short, there I lay, smashed ribs and
a punctured lung,at least my horse was seen to,they still made me crawl 5
kilometres up the road through electric fences to a house to phone for
help.Well what can I say the horse always comes first!
