I have an 11 year old Paint gelding who has a permanent swelling around the back of his fetlock on his right hindleg (windpuff?). He also has some bone jacks on his hocks in both hindlegs so that he really objects to holding his hindlegs up for the blacksmith. He has no problem flexing his legs to kick at flies though! I am always careful to warm him up and cool him down very well so that he doesn't stiffen up,and to keep an eye out for any heat in his legs and so far he hasn't shown any signs of lameness.I would like to know what is the general opinion on this horse's ability to compete in competitive trail/endurance rides of 25 miles (we are both just starting out as novices). Would he be o.k.ed at the preliminary vet check? Although I have done some non-competitive trail riding up to know, sometimes for four or five hours at a time, on a wide variety of terrain, I plan to continue his training slowly and see how he goes as I ask for more distance. Any ideas on this "problem" would
be welcomed.
