Hi! Haven't been on the list for a while, but I have a question for Susan
Evans or Tom Ivers for my Horse Nutrition class. I need to know what the
normal levels of lactic acid are in a horse at rest and in a horse being
exercised. I need in addition to numbers actual literature that cites
experiments validating these numbers. Also, if you can help....would like to
know if there is anything in the literature regarding the effect of lactic acid
on exercise...good or bad. I did a database search on the subject and
found some articles that Susan wrote back in California, but I haven't been
able to locate them in the library.
Additionally, since there is an increase in the amount of lactic acid
secreted in the stomach after a meal is consumed would this have any
effect at all on exercise and performance and thus affect the time at which
horses should be fed prior to exercise.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
