Skin Pinch Test

Hi Group! Well I took my horse Blue in for cvc and chem lab and he came out
great, so the energy thing must of been his feed, which I've since
straightened out. The problem is he always fails skin pinch test. I talked
to the vet and he said that some horses do even though he is not dehydrated,
proof being the blood work done. So he said to pinch the skin above his eye
to get a true test on him. Does anyone else have a horse with baggy skin
like that? He also has wrinkles after I take his saddle pad off, but only
after a good workout. If he dosen't get hot they aren't there.

I am worried about this because we have our first race, Man Against Horse
first weekend of Oct, and I worry about the vet checks. When they pinch his
skin he'll look dehydrated, so how do I tell them he is not? Should I tell
them on vet in and if so what would be the most diplomatic way of doing that
without bringing to much attention to this issue? He drinks OK on a ride,
not as good as I'd like him too, but good enough. Also at first vet check
if they think he fails skin pinch, but his p&r's are good, and he looks
great, won't they let me go on? I guess I'll never get BC with this horse
because of this either. By the way our first race will only be the 25er.

Thanks all!
