OH Well --may as well get in on this one..
I dont recommend giving electrolytes everyday.. as Duncan said it messes with
the Ca balance.

I would LOOK at the blood test-- or serum test for Se levels.. been there
done that..

ALL my horses were on the VERY LOW end of the scale..
Now Susan will let us know what test is most valid.. I did just blood.. and
however the lab Delkab?? did the test..???

I has a test on each horse and TWO on the problem horse.. but marked it as
another horse.. a test control --to insure I got the SAME results.. they did

I feed MEGA-SEL liquid.. appears to take up better.. also up the Vit e
about 1000iu per day.

I DO double dose...before a race or any hard work out.. FLAME time..

BUT I also took blood tests after 6 months to see where we were.. about MID
range..

I believe these hard workers need MORE Se/E then the recommended dose.
It is oxidized.. doing the free radical thing.. so it is NOT stored and will
not get to toxic..levels..
I have not tested in 2 years.. its about time i do one.. but NONE of my gang
has muscle cramp or tie up problems..since

I will go with the low Se.. as the MAIN cause.. and maybe the Ca from the
Alfalfa.. but if its half and half and no grain.. not much of a problem.. but
to be sure and an easy test.. cut the Alfalfa down or out for a week and go
on a hard ride..however i would try to find the cause though blood tests
rather them cause a problem and discomfort for the horse again..

so do the blood test for Se.
