<<<Just wanted to ask if anyone has ever had a horse whose elbow had swollen.
Our mare appears to have a capped hock on her elbow on the left front but not
the right. We are getting prepared for just a 25 miler on Saturday, and she
is as spry as ever, not taking a lame step so I can see no reason not to take
her, but I am baffled about what this could be. It is hard, not fluid, and is
apparently painless to her. It seems to have cropped up with in the last 2
weeks or less, probably while we were at Yosemite last weekend. Any ideas??

Sandy,
Yes, I have an idea as to what this might be. As you mentioned you were
in Yosemite last weekend, well was the bedding different? My answer to this
problem would be that the horse got this on it's elbow by laying down. My
horses always get little hard spots on a elbow from laying down. They are
painless and shouldn't be a problem. Well this could be completely wrong but
this is just an idea!
