HI Stephanie -

For those on your service who are interested in reading (and repeating) the
truth, I would like to share the facts.

The 1997 Race of Champions is going to be held October 4 & 5th at the Crooked
Creek Horse Park - as a two day 100 mile endurance ride.

We are sanctioned by AERC.

All of the riders receive regular newsletters and correspondence from the
ROC regarding details of the event and all riders appear to be happy campers
and excited to meet us in PA next week!

This year the ROC has 93 entries - which will make this our second largest
ride in our fourteen year history. We have more sponsors and more awards and
more entertainment and more excitement than in our fourteen year history.

We have full page ads running in all of the major horse magazines in the
east, with ads on TV and radio to encourage people to come and see this
wonderful sport.
The local travel council has set up their office to handle all of the
publicity and requests for spectator information to help this great event.
We have the support of the entire community as they have worked four years
to bring this event to reality.

We have a veterinary staff of twenty (20) of the finest veterinarians in the
USA. We have a management staff of over 70 committee chairmen and over 200
volunteers working toward the goal of presenting this world class event.

Never at any point has there been even one second of question of whether this
1997 ROC was going to be held. All of these ridiculous rumors are just that
- one person types a half truth or lie, and then everyone repeats it and so
it goes. I think this is a very good example of the importance of being very
cautious in believing anything you hear on this forum because anyone can say
anything and noone is held accountable. It seems like the truth is easy
enough to seek out - but then likes and rumors are so often more exciting
than the dull truth. The gossip metality that so often permeates this forum
is disgusting at times and takes away from the good that can come from people
sharing ideas and helping the sport and the horses.

So the dull truth is - the ROC is happening next weekend - we have always
been (and deserve the title) of the BEST endurance event in the world. This
year we will elevate this sport and this event to a new level of excellence.
If you would like to come and have a great time - call the Armstrong Country
Travel Bureau at 412-548-3226.
