Really excited here in sunny SA - had to let you all know . We had our
first FEI ruled 100 miler held in Bloemfontein this weekend. FEI moniters
to run it and check that all was done correctly in order to be a qualifying
ride for Quattar.
18 horse started from all over SA and only the best were present. The
organization was amazing and we learnt alot from the FEI guys - but
according to them they learnt alot from us as well. We have been in
isolation for so long that we do things quite a bit differently from
Europe.One of these being our computer run timing programs etc.Anyway the
best news was that our first two completers finished in over the world
record time - 1st 8h07 and second 8h40.
The bad news is that even though they qualify - they can't go . We have to
quarantine the horses for 6 weeks in the station in Cape Town and this
facility is booked solid for a year in advance!!!. However SA is expanding
the facilities and we are determined to book well in advance for the next
one. The best of all is that my mentor who has been helping this newbie
this season was second and she just proved her methods - not fast but
steady -( this horse is in her 3 rd year with over 2000 slow kilometers on
the clock!!) Way to go Johanni !!!!
