I do not agree at all on this point. If you go out there with the correct
mental attitude, a horse well prepared and use good tactics you have a
better than average chance of being up there with the lightweights.

As an example, for many years my wife has ridden as a lightweight with a
weigh in of about 165/170. She is always in the fore front of most all the
rides she enters. This past weekend she was third in a very tough 50 miler,
winning time 7hr 6min. she was third by a length behind the winner and a
nose behind the second place. Second place was a featherweight. (this gave
her 16,000 miles and 66 years)

For many years I was up there with my wife, out placing the light riders and
I weigh in at 215. Why not now? 70 years on the old body has caused a few
realignments of priorities. I prefer to train the young unbroken ones to
where they are ready and winning then go to a new one.

So, Carl get a good horse, train it properly, get your self in proper mental
and physical condition and go out and beat the hell out of those
lightweights. IT HAS BEEN DONE, IT CAN BE DONE, YOU CAN BE THE ONE
