As a watcher at one of the rides a few years ago, a horse came in without a
rider. there were no crew members to help. My husband and I were saddled
for slow day of visiting after the race and doing "hanging out time" for our
horses.

I went for the rider, after changing horses, saddles, etc with my husband. I
searched 18 miles of the 25 miler without finding the rider.

When I returned to the start/finish line, I found the rider walked in, loaded
his horse and left. I do not BLAME him. He came off his horse in a creek.
As he reached for his horse, other riders raced into the creek. They did
not stop to water their horses. Instead they rode through, as they left so
did the downed rider's horse. The loose horse stayed with them until the
next vet check.

I was mad at the lack of concern shown this rider, his horse, and the people
who were worried about a missing and possibly injurned rider.

The only good thing that came out of this was I discovered I owned a VERY
good endurance horse.
