Best Condition...HELLO!

Reading ALL of the BC responses I think we've overlooked a couple of =
things. First and foremost is that the BC "prize" is JUDGED, at least =
the percentage that pertains to the horse. Not many ways around factual =
figures like finishing time and rider weight with tack, which will be =
discussed in a few...but remember the horse is ALLOTTED a number =
according to the vet's subjective opinion. (I'm not knocking the vet's =
experience on judging the factors involved, but when it all comes down =
to and when there's a close tie, it's subjectivity that determines the =
winner) It's hard to not have people racing (unsafely?) when a time or =
place is a factor in scoring (remember it's not just because it's a =
competition but how the competitors VIEW the competition) Why do we =
have time a considering factor anyway when it's a placing (Top 10) that =
is judged? OF COURSE a horse is working harder when it's carrying =
weight that is not contributing to the efficiency of the horse's =
movement, ie tack, a fatter, unconditioned horse/rider, a bad rider... =
When I was at a ride recently, I overheard a comment that disturbed me. =
A rider who was obviously UNDERconditioned and weighed about 100 lbs of =
inefficient weight more than me said, "She may have the time points, but =
I have the weight points." Ouch. I don't know about anyone else out =
there, but I don't want to have my horse carrying any unnecessary =
weight, be it tack or ME. =20

Let the games begin & let the comments commence, BABY.
Ciao,
Susie & James
