Please be aware that there are no rules with in AERC mandating ANY hold time
except for limited distance rides. (See rule 1.4.7.1)

We can keep the 12 hour completion time, have no stipulated hold times (just
all stop and go vet checks) and let the responsibility for the horses
welfare be on the rider. That would be a very level playing field for the
entire nation,BUT

Can we rely on the riders to take the best care of their horses??? Can we
expect that then no one will complain of unfair Treatment??
Can we really expect this to happen??????

Really, the existing Rules and Regulations as well as many of the guide
lines (published and unpublished) have evolved over the years for the
welfare of the horse and for the most equitable means of competition. Our
sport has one of the smallest set of rules for competition (compare with
baseball, soccer, dressage or the show ring) If you must criticize any of
the rules do so with improvement in mind. Criticize but at the same time
offer an improvement to the rule you do not like. Remember I said
IMPROVEMENT to the rule not just a change.
