I have very little respect for the Best Condition Award. I think the
original concept is good. However, there are very few vets, where I've
ridden, who are competent enough to award it fairly. Many vets can't see
lameness at all. Many don't know the AERC rules well enough to realize you
don't have to allow a horse to stand for BC if it's been overridden. So,
in most cases, the Vet score means nothing. There are already systems in
place to award time and weight. They are called placement and weight
division.

I just can't buy into this whole hubbub of "The Coveted" Best Condition
Award. In my mind, it's totally political. Go ahead, call me a
cynic--flame me!!!

My rewards for riding my horse well come from other riders who I respect
who come up to me after the ride and say, "Your horse looks great!!".
