BC judging

I have not seen riders whipping and spurring their horses just
to have the added time advantage on BC judging. I have seen it in
races to the finish.

In my own case - I look at my next nearest competitor and see how
much margin I have and if it is sufficient - I slow down and don't
waste my horse. First by 10 minutes and first by one hour
are the same to me.

I strongly believe that time and weight should matter though.
A 10th place horse ridden by a 98 lb teenager would almost
always beat a 225 lb rider on the first place horse. This would
not be a fair comparison.
