Julie, you may want to carry a long dressage-type whip so you can ask
the horse that is being ponied to "keep up" by tapping his butt; and
also use a stud chain once or twice to discourage him from charging
ahead. Try it in an enclosed area for the first few times and they
usually get the idea pretty fast. At least if you're in the paddock,
you can always turn loose when disaster strikes.
