Hi Linda, congratulations on buying the (possibly) best trailer for your
horse ever! Even though he may need a little adjustment time to get used to
it, he will love you for it. We have hauled the eighty-five head of horses we
have at the ranch were I work in alumminum stock trailers for the past
sixteen years I have worked there. To answer your questions based on my
experience, It is safer to haul a single horse in the front of the trailer to
put the load over the bed and axle of your truck,(too much weight in the back
can cause the trailer to come off the ball!). I believe it is a more
comfortable ride as well. As for position, literally all of our horses from
the drafters to the smallest pony choose to ride on a backward slant. We tie
our horses for logistical reasons, but I know many folks who turn them loose.
I could count any problems we've had in sixteen years with this method on
less than one hand! good luck, Becky
