Hiya,

Someone asked something the other day about different brands of oral
GAGs, and it just so happens I asked Tom Ivers about the different GAG
components a few weeks ago. His opinion was that the best results are
from feeding a combination of Chondroitin sulfates and Glucosamine
sulfate. Some brands of oral GAGs feed one or the other, the only one
that combines both is either Cosequin from Nutramax, or Coquex, a
generic brand of the same thing.

Tom's suggested dosage level is 1600 mg. CS and 2000 mg. of GS per day.
He also has a few other tricks up his sleeve that he throws in and I
happen to agree with, Vitamin C, betaine, etc. If you didn't want to
pay Nutramax's price for Cosequin, you could always buy two different
supplements of CS and GS and mix them together. I get mine from United
Vet Equine 1-800-328-6652, they have different types and concentrations
of GAGs, either CS, GS or the two combined.

I just love GAGs. I started a nice pinto half-arab I bought a few
months ago on Adequan and oral GAGs and the difference in his movement
and comfort is amazing. He wasn't outright lame, just really stiff and
sore from years of unbalanced work and six months of semi-abusive
"exercise" from a team penner who called out the shoer twice a year
whether the horse needed it or not and thought spurs, curb and a quirt
were a fine substitute for brains. Argh. Anyway, the GAGs really
helped alot and ol' Puzzle just floats along happy as pie now.

Anyway, just another .02. Good luck!
