I fought with reoccurring white line disease for more than two years. At
the time of my first introduction to it, is had invaded more than 25% of
my horse's hoof wall. You would be surprised how far up it can creep if
left untreated. Like your horse, my horse suffered from mild to severe
lameness due to WLD. I finally got control of it by treating it with
iodine soaks (I never tried Dr. Hamilton's recipe). Try using an
easyboot that's a little too big, or EasyCare's boot medicator. I also
found that exposing the affected area to air helped a lot--try having
your farrier notch out small sections where the hoof meets the shoe,
about the size of 1/2 a dime. One thing about WLD--it's REALLY hard to
get rid of. I came to expect it every summer, and wasn't entirely free
of it until I moved my horse to another region.
