I take my horses to Washington State University for
lameness evalutations, pre-purchase exams, etc.
Their recommendation for any type of tendon or
ligament injury is a *minimum* of 90 days:
30 days stall
30 days hand walk
30 days ponying
And only then should they be started working again - gradually.
I asked them - if 90 days is good, is 6 months better? The
answer was an emphatic yes! I was told after 6 months, anything
longer really doesn't help that much but that 6 months is the
optimum layoff time.
