You don't have to bring them in from the top of the mountain. One way to
keep them from being stolen is to leave them at the top of the mountain,
and (just like if you want to preserve the wilderness), don't pave the
road that goes there :).

Really, the only kind of trailer that can get up the road to my horses is
a 2 horse bumper pull; and no horse theif is going to drive 2 miles up a
dirt road to steal just two horses (one of which it will probably take at
least 2 hours to get into the trailer :)).
