On the same note, many years ago I offered to help a child - 9
at the time - get started riding. Her dad, a football and
track coach, had never said anything derogatory about riding
and his daughter was absolutely horse-crazy (still is :) ). As
she struggled to learn to ride - posting, hands steady, heels
down,legs quiet, eyes up, etc. - her dad noted that riding
required a LOT of coordination and athletic ability. Then he
admitted, all those years we have been friends, he had thought
that riding was "just sitting there." Of course, he had never
voiced this thought before :), but watching his child gave a
him a real appreciation of my sport.
