was interested in that the author said they could be used for endurance. >>

Dear Beaux, when I was learning to ride(can it really have been almost 25
years ago?) one of the schooling horses was a big, chestnut standardbred,
retired track horse, named Redball. I don't know about endurance, but
Redball was a kind and game horse--he would attempt anything you asked, even
when obviously afraid (like going down into a dark woods and then crossing a
really scary looking stream) and always tried to take care of his rider. And
let me tell you--you learn to ride a trot, posting or sitting, on a retired
track trotter--and no horse ever after will phase you! I've never forgotten
Redball, and can't see a standardbred without getting "warm, fuzzies" inside.
As I said, can't advise on endurance, but my own experience with a
standardbred was very positive--I think Redball would have done well for
someone in endurance, he was willing, brave, and game--and very forgiving of
an inexperienced riders mistakes--

Trish & "pretty David" (who says, I think you should go buy a standardbred
for this endurance thing mom--I'll stay home and guard the pasture!)
