Help campers! I am afraid! My farrier was just out and pulled my mare's shoes
and discovered what appears to be a case of laminitis. the white line is
yellow and mushy and at the toe it is soft with little blood pockets...worse
on the right front than left. The farrier doesn't think it's rotated as there
is no pooching (not too scientific, I know) out like it would if the coffin
bone had moved down. I had no idea. She never took a lame step (except for
after stepping on a rock at Pidgeon Mtn), never stood funny or acted painful
in any way. I just rode her today and she felt great!!!! She got a virus
while we were in Chicamauga (ldurkee told you about it) and when I got her
home I separated her from the others on a bahia pasture (seeds and all) for
about two weeks 24 hrs a day. I am thinking that must have been what caused
it. Anyway the vet is on his way out to take x-rays and then I will know if
there is rotation. I will take her to Dr. Peggy as soon as I can for
acupuncture too...and I have a good farrier. So I hope there is hope. This
mare has come such a long way and I will be devastated if she is impaired. I
am just crazy about her. At this point I am just projecting, fearing the
worst. Any one out there have any experience, strength or hope on this one?
It would be very gratefully appreciated.
