Hi--

I'm reading with interest this discussion on how to stand in stirrups
and I'm afraid I'm confused: why are we standing? I started a
discussion several months ago in rec.equestrian but I think it bled over
into ridecamp (search "endurance trot position" in dejanews --
<http://www.dejanews.com/>) about how to ride the trot. I had done my
first 25m ride standing almost the entire way at an extended trot, and
was advised by many that too much of either standing/extended trot is
hard on the horse. I had done this because I thought extended trot was
good, and I found it really hard to post my horse's extended trot.

On conditioning rides I've since been training my horse at a working
trot and post as much as possible (a new saddle has made this much more
possible). So when should I be standing? Only uneven terrain?

Thanks for any comments,

Eileen
